How we have longed after this coffee from the Coffee Villages washing station, a Peaberry Red Bourbon that brings back memories of summer.
Tom Bagaza is the person behind Coffee Villages Washing station, that was established back in 2008.
With origins in the area, he found coffee an opportunity to invest back in his community through a sustainable and long-standing manner.
The washing station was built with the hope to work with farmers by purchasing their cherries and then employing them after the harvest to process the cherries.
Since the beginning, most of the profit coming from the washing station was re-invested to increase the capacity of the washing station, which now able to process up to four containers worth of coffee.
To be able to process all the cherries harvested by the community of 800 coffee farmers around him, a second wet mill is being established nearby.
This coffee was carefully harvested, de-pulped and washed on the Washing Station’s wet mill. It was left to dry 10-14 days on raised beds. Peaberries were sorted into a specific lot to be sold separately, as it is the case of this Peaberry lot of Red Bourbon.
The washing station collaborates with the Rwanda Trading Company, whose financial support and with the means gained from the sales of this coffee helped build a water system so that the local community can have access to clean water.
