This Bourbon coffee grows in a microclimate 1850 meters above sea level in southern Rwanda, which gives us a full-bodied silky cup with flavors of chocolate, vanilla and plum jam.

The privately owned washing station Simbi was founded in 2013 by Abdul Rudahunga, who got his coffee interest through his grandmother. She was also a coffee farmer and one of the few Rwandans in the countryside who roasted and enjoyed her own coffee as part of her daily routine.

Abdul with its washing station has affected the local community for the better by enabling farmers in the Huye region to have their coffee processed and thus get paid much better for their harvest. Almost 1,500 small farms deliver their coffee daily to Simbi Station, which employs about 80 people during the main harvest season. There is room here to process 300 tonnes of coffee berries at a time using a range of careful processing methods, including a wet fermentation method, density sorting with sorting channels and well-regulated sun drying. The Simbi station has made a name for itself by being nominated for the Cup of Excellence on several occasions for its high quality coffee.
